Motorbike routes from Niedernsill
1. the ‘five lake’ tour (444km)
From Niedernsill you follow the curvy road up Paß Thurn (1.274m) in the direction of Kitzbühel and on to St. Johann in Tirol, Waidach and lake Walchsee. The route continues on the panoramic Deutsche Alpenstraße to Bad Reichenhall, on the border between Germany and Austria. Via the historic town of Salzburg you arrive at the beautiful Salzkammergut, a region with many lakes, like the Fuschlsee and the Wolfgangsee. From Bad Ischl you follow the signs to Bad Goisern and Steg am Hallstättersee, over Paß Schütt via Abtenau, Golling and Bischofshofen back to Niedernsill.
2. the Gerloß Alpenstraße to Tirol (245km)
From Niedernsill you ride to Mittersill and Neukirchen, where a detour to the Roßberg rewards you with spectacular views over the Salzachtal. You then continue to Krimml to visit Europes highest waterfall (380m). The best is still to come: the Gerloß Alpenstraße (1.531m) to Zell am Ziller in Tirol. You return via Jenbach and Wörgl where a challenging road takes you to Hopfgarten and Kitzbühel. Paß Thurn will bring you back to Niedernsill.
3. the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße (182km) through the heart of the Hohe Tauern
The most famous Alpine road in Austria starts in Bruck. Take your time for this 48km long road and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Hohe Tauern. Wheater permitting, you can go all the way up to the Glacier on the Großglocker: the Pasterze. On the other side of the Alpine Road you continue through Heiligenblutt and Iselsberg to Lienz and Huben. A little detour to the Lucknerhaus over the Kalser Glocknerstraße will reward you with a stunning view on the back of the Glockner. The Felbertauern will bring you back to Niedernsill.

4. highlights of Kärnten (348km)
You leave in the direction of Zell am See and continue through Saalfelden and Maria Alm over the Dienter Sattel (1.342m) to Mühlbach am Hochkönig. The mountainhotel Arthurhaus on 1500m is perfect for a coffeebreak! Then you take the road to Bischofshofen into the Fritztal to Hüttau, Eben, Radstadt and over the Tauernpaß (1.738m) to Mauterndorf. From Mauterndorf you continue to St. Michael and the mountainvillage of Katschenberghöhe (1.641m) to Rennweg and Kremsbrücke. A hightlight of this tour is the Nockalmstraße, a 35km long winding road into the middle of nowhere. Read more about the many facilities for motorcyclists on their website. You then follow the signs to Gmünd, Spittal and Obervellach. From here you can go to Lienz to take the Felbertauern back to Niedernsill, or opt for the challenging Großglocker Hochalpenstraße.
